TEDDY VS NIGHTMARES
CONTEXT: Student project in 4th semester
GENRE: Action Adventure
ENGINE: Unreal Engine 4
TOOLS: Maya, Substance Painter, Photoshop
TIME FRAME: 7 weeks
TEAM SIZE: 8 (2 Programmer, 6 Artists)
PLATFORM: PC
WHAT IS TEDDY VS NIGHTMARES:
The task was to develop a dungeon crawler in 7 weeks. The setting and the way of implementation was freely selectable. Our team chose a creepy circus setting for the project.
Teddy VS Nightmares is a digital prototype of a game created with a team of 8 students. It is a third-person 3D-dungeon-crawler. The player assumes the role of a teddy bear, who wants to protect his child from any nightmares. At the beginning, Teddy finds himself in a circus ruin, full of dark abandoned paths and creepy clowns. Each of these enemies has different abilities for which he must find the appropriate weapons to defeat them.

MY ROLE:
I was mainly responsible for level design and environment design. I created the concept, the 3D-model, texture and the animation for one of the three clowns. In addition, I modeled many 3D-Assets in the environment of the game.

THE DESIGN PROCESS:
The player was our biggest project. Besides a natural gameplay, many different weapons and abilities were important. The player must be able to switch quickly and smoothly between animations and different weapons to create an enjoyable game experience
To clarify the atmosphere of the game, we played heavily with asymmetric figures and dark-light contrasts. The characters themselves should be seen in highly saturated colors instead. For this, the creepy circus setting was perfect and we quickly decided on the theme.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM TEDDY VS NIGHTMARES:
An animation of Teddy defeating the evil clown
An animation of the final boss attacking Teddy
CHARACTER DESIGN:
Brave little Teddy, our main character
Our three enemies, the clown on the right was my personal task
CONCEPT ART FOR THE CLOWN:
Here are the concepts I designed for opponents of the circus setting. From these concepts, I came up with enemy number 3, the clown. Other ideas of scary enemies were for example a juggling clown who throws his juggling objects on the player or a clown who hits the player with a pie which slows him down or the boxing fight club clown. If the project hadn't been time-limited, I would have loved to design "the two pantomime twins" and a circus domteur with a whip for this setting.
