WHAT IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION:
The task was to create a simple game in 4 weeks. The specifications of the core gameplay mechanics should be movement, high score and destruction. Under Construction is a 3D casual game for Android and IOS devices. The player controls a tower with the goal to reach a high score by collecting floors and stacking them up. The player can move his tower on a 5x5 grid with a constant speed. Random lighted green, red, blue or yellow tiles appear on this grid. If the player stops for a moment on a lighted tile, the tower expands by one floor in the indicated color and the player receives points. If the player collects more than one floor of the same color in a row, a combination multiplier increases the score faster. To make the movement more difficult, random objects appear on the grid. To remove them, the player uses a bulldozer that he gets after every 100 points.
MY ROLE:
My main role was the game design of Under Construchtion. Additionally I was responsible for the art department. This includes the concept, 3D-modeling, texturing and the UI design.
THE DESIGN PROCESS:
The gameplay should not be complicated and straightforward. The simplicity and plainness of the playing field and the individual objects was important to me. After all, it should radiate a cozy atmosphere for a little mobile game. To achieve this, I paid special attention to the grid itself, the main menu UI, the in-game UI, the pause menu UI, the loading screen and the logo. The most important part to underline the simplicity of the game was to design the player tower, the grid ground, the bulldozer and all the random obstacles that come up.
